UPDATE November 15, 2012: We received a message from Hillary Roberts saying that she has received inquiries from 25 states and Canada about sending relief quilts to New Jersey. The inquiries are coming from quilt guilds, quilt shops, and individuals. The need for warm quilts and blankets is still very great, so if you can help we are sure your quilts will be appreciated and loved.
As soon as the devastation of Hurricane Sandy became clear, AQS was flooded with requests from quilters for a place to send quilts to help with the relief efforts. Thanks to AQS authors Linda Hahn and Linda Poole, we have established a connection with the Blankie Depot in New Jersey. Hillary Roberts, who is president of Blankie Depot, is prepared to receive and distribute quilts through the New Jersey National Guard and other outlets that will put the quilts in the hands of those who need them most.
Blankie Depot normally distributes quilts to children from birth to 18 years of age. However, in times of disaster relief they serve all ages, genders, and counties without hesitation. According to Hillary, “The need is great and with cold weather and holidays approaching, requests will be greater than usual. Given the time of year, the heavier the quilt, the better.”
Please follow the following guidelines when sending your quilts:
- Quilts should be twin to queen sizes.
- Please include your contact information (name, address, phone and/or email.) Blankie Depot will try to let you know where your quilt is heading.
- Quilts should be machine washed and wrapped to keep the quilts fresh in transport.

Thank you wonderful quilters! We echo what Hillary said to us, “Bring on the quilts!”

Greetings!
Could you please tell me whom I should contact in southwestern Ohio to get six small quilts to you for the NJ/NY relief effort of Project Linus?
Thanks you.
Cheers!
Barbara
I am shipping 7 quilts today, donated by members of Rainy Day Quilt Guild, Ketchikan, Alaska.
Can you tell me if there is any place for NYS residents that need quilts that I can contact? Are there any quilt guilds down there who are distributing? Thanks!
Linda, I will send a PDF of the pattern to your email address. Sylvia Thomas, AQS Administrative Assistant
Linda, I apologize. I clicked on the wrong comment and sent you the Red Roses pattern by mistake. Enjoy my mistake! Sylvia Thomas, AQS Administrative Assistant
