Stockholm Star: Step 13: Thread selection and quilting

Now it’s time to select quilting threads. I’m going to go through my thread stash and see if I already have some colors that might work. My friend ZJ Humbach, a longarmer, showed me this trick. To get an idea of how thread is going to look when it’s sewn in, you have to make a little nest of thread on the fabric.

Do I like any of these greens?

Irene Berry, who is quilting Stockholm Star, and I eventually chose several thread colors that blend with the prints. She’s keeping the quilting fairly simple since there’s already so much going on – but not so simple that she’s going to get bored. Irene starts quilting around the edges of the quilt and works inward (another tip from Diane Gaudynski). She’s planning a quilting design that includes continuous curves and feathers…Jan Magee, The Quilt Life
