She hasn’t made a quilt she’d like to show you, she quit teaching after only two years, and she would rather the spotlight be on others. Even so, Penny McMorris is one of today’s most recognized and respected quilting champions.

Penny’s quilting show for the Bowling Green University’s PBS station back around 1980 was my introduction to the wide world of quilting. Until I saw her program, I was only aware of antique and traditional quilts. Like her, I find the work of others more inspiring than my own and I have to credit her with opening my eyes to all the possibilities and wonders of contemporary quilts and quilters. I still have the spiral bound book that you could order from the Bowling Green station! My first quilting book.
I first met Penny when we both worked at Owens-Corning Fiberglas in Toledo, OH. She was the Art Curator & I was fascinated by the quilt in the corporate art collection.
Only now starting to machine quilt, I had no idea the magnificent computer program she and her husband developed. Bravo, Penny! I’m glad she’s getting recognition as Quilters’ Champion.
