Free Pattern – Garden Party

Pillow Trapunto_Page_1Make this adorable wallhanging, GARDEN PARTY, just in time for spring! Barbara E. Lies shows you how to use the pillow trapunto technique–she says it’s easier than traditional trapunto. If you like a good challenge, why not try it?

Trapunto adds irresistible dimension and interest to any quilt, but the many steps required can make it daunting for those looking forward to actualy finishing a quilt. Appliquéing light-colored motifs on dark grounds makes for dramatic quilts, but preventing show-through of the seam allowance can be just as challenging as trapumto. It can also be difficult to quilt around the trapunto without creating distracting ripples in the surface of the trapunto. Pillow trapunto is a fun and easy way to address these challenges simultaneously.

Follow along to learn the technique while you make the GARDEN PARTY small wall quilt, straight from the pages of American Quilter magazine’s May 2014 issue.

looks like the pattern would make great pillows!
Vary the color scheme, suit it to the décor, and
    have a wonderful spring offering.

I have a 100 year old hand hewn church pew from the church
I grew up in, and it has a dark maroon cushion . . . these
pillows in a variety of color schemes across the pew would
be great decoration accents for the Spring season!

Where is “On the Web – page 14″

    • Sylvia says:

JoAnn, The “On the Web – page 14″ sentence in the article is to refer readers of AQ to page 14 of the magazine to let them know where to find a printable, color version of the full-size patterns. When this PDF was prepared for the website, it was saved directly as is and this sentence was not removed first. If you print the PDF from our site, you will have everything you need to complete the Garden Party project. If you need further assistance, please contact Michele Duffy, AQ magazine Editor-in-Chief. Her email address is micheleduffy@aqsquilt.com.
