Dawn in Des Moines

A stunning sunrise greeted me today from my hotel room on this first day of the fourth annual AQS Quilt Show & Contest in Des Moines. If you’re anywhere in the vicinity, don’t miss an opportunity to see over 1,000 quilts and hundreds of wonderful vendors. Near-perfect weather is predicted for the entire week, so gather up some friends, drive on over, and savor the visual feast.

It was my privilege this morning to announce the winners of the AQS judged show. Congratulations to Gina Perkes of Payson, Arizona, who won best of show with her quilt Ambrosia. All of the winning quilts are posted at http://www.americanquilter.com/, and photos of those quilts will also be published in the January 2012 issue of American Quilter magazine.

If you get to the show, please stop by the “editors office” (in the main hallway just outside the entrance to the show in Hyvee Hall) and say hi. I’m always eager to meet our readers and listen to your ideas and suggestions on articles and patterns.
